Mimicking
Basic Formats

People often ask : "How do I get my name
in a lot of different colors?", and the answer to this
question is : "By using a mimic format". It used
to be considered cool to be able to mimic, but now mimicking
is old, so it won't hurt to show you all how to get your name
into many different colors.
Please do not be a retard, and use this format to mimic other
players, because it is annoying, and it's easy to figure out
who is doing the mimic...so save yourself some humiliation,
and only use these formats for the sake of making your name
look cool. Thanks! First of all, you have to understand the
points of a format. Lets take the following format for example:
.format ~B~E~yGuildName~w
Now, we all know from reading this page, that the .format
command sets the command permanent to your chat format, and
that the ~B is bold, the ~E
is embossed, the ~y is yellow,
the "GuildName" is
your guild name, and the ~w is
the color of your name and your text... So, the last point
of that command, is to fill in the color of your name. Well,
if you can change the color of it to a single color, is there
a way to either erase it, or make it multicolor permanently?
Yes, you can erase your name, by using a format command, and
yes you can make a mimic name permanent, but for that you
will need to do use a hex editor. As of now we do not explain
how to make an auto mimic we might put this section up later;
we will just have to wait and see.. Lets move on to how to
erase your name, and why it is necessary.
The command .format ~B~E~yGuildName~w~[
is a bit different than the one above...not by much.
The only difference, as you should be able to pick out,
is the addition of ~[ after
your name color. What does this do, you ask? The answer,
is that is the variable by which this format command stores
your name. Let me explain further... As I asked above, what
follows the ~w in the format?
Your name, of course, so by using the ~[,
you capture your name. So, now you have your name captured,
so what do you do with it? Well, if you were to type "Test",
you would see The following :
GuildNameMyName>Test
I know what you are thinking - "nothing looks different!".
Well, you are right, nothing appears to be different...
Now, try just typing a "]"
and see what happens... If you were, you would see the
following:
GuildName
Notice something? Yes, your name is missing! Are you
confused? If so, I will explain. We captured your name
into the variable "~[",
and by typing a ], you are
clearing your name. Don't understand why? Lets look way
back to the line ".format ~B~E~yGuildName~w".
Remember, the last character in that line effected what
your name would look like, and it happened to be the color
code for white. Now that we have used the line ".format
~E~B~yGuildName~w~[", the last character before
your name, ends up being the ]
symbol, and we know that the ~[
command captures your name, so the "]"
sets your name to blank. Since the format command we used,
captured your name in the ~[,
and the ] cleared your name...what
would happen if you typed "]Test"?
Well, this is what it would look like this:
Weird huh? So, anything you place after the
] should show up where your name
used to be... What would happen if you were to type "]~rSome~lGuy>
~wTest"? I'll tell you what would happen, you
would see the following:
You can slap any name you want after the ],
and it will place it where your name is supposed to be. Lets
do another example, starting fresh from the start.
First, type .format ~B~E~mGUILD~y~[.
Then type "Test" and
you will see:
Now, type "]~bY~mo~lu~wrN~la~mm~be~y>
~oTest" and you will see:
GUILDYourName>
Test
See how all the colors fall in there? You can make a name
as long as you want, with as many colors and icons as you
want, as long as you place it after the ]
(there is a limit to how much you can fit in, but I doubt
you will get that far). Now, a good idea would be to make
some formats, using the ] and some colors and whatnot in
a text-editor like Notepad, so that you can copy and paste
it...so that you don't have to type your colorful name every
time you want to use it. If you don't understand what I
mean by that, I'll do yet, another walk-through. Go into
notepad, and type in a colorful name, starting with the
], for example, "]~rY~oo~yu~wrN~ya~om~re~m>
~w". Now, save the text file as Formats.txt
or something, and highlight the line you just typed with
the mouse. Now, while the line is highlighted, go to "edit"
on the menu bar and select "copy". Now, get into
Netstorm, and when you get connected, Hold SHIFT
and press INSERT (SHIFT + INSERT
= paste). You should see the line you copied appear in the
chat box. If you type "Test"
right after that line, while it is in the chat box, then
hit enter, you should see the following:
GUILDYourName>
Test
Now, every time you want to use your colorful
name, you have to hit SHIFT and INSERT, then type what you
want to say before hitting enter. I know it is annoying
to have to do at first, but after a while, you will get
used to doing it. If you find that your format is so long
that it leaves you no room to type, there is another way
to do it. Instead of hitting SHIFT and INSERT before you
type what you want to say, type what you want to say, then
press HOME, then press SHIFT
and INSERT, and your format
will slide in before your text. Just hit enter, and you're
rockin. If you don't want to use your colorful format, you
can just type normally, and you will see your plain format
as it was before. NOW...the next question, I know, is "Since
I can erase my name, can I erase my guild tag with it?",
and the answer is Yes. I have already explained how the
] works, so this section shouldn't
be nearly as long. Type the following command into the chat
box:
.format ~B~E~y~[GUILD~w
You notice now, that your guild tag falls after the [,
so it is now being captured as well. Now, type "Test"
and you will see:
Just like it would be normally. Now, just
hit the ] and press enter and
you will see:
Nothing at all...Your guild tag and name are
gone. Try this, type "]Test"
and you will get:
Test
Notice how the text is in yellow, just like
you defined in the format command above, before the [GUILD~w.
Yellow is your default color now. Now, with this, you can
make your own format in notepad, including your guild name
this time. Here is an example:
]~rG~ou~yi~oL~rD~bY~mo~lu~wrN~la~mm~be~g>
~wTest
And this will produce:
Instead of just doing a colorful name, you
do a colorful Guild tag, and name. You have to copy and paste
it like you had to when you were just pasting your name. Now
you can make as advanced and long mimics as you like. You
can improve the looks of your mimic furthermore by using different
sizes and by adding icons to your mimic. If you don't know
how to do this I advice you to read the following tutorial
to learn how to do that.
Ok I think you got that now. However, to insert
icons is a lot easier then changing the font. Just type the
tag for the icon anywhere you want. In Example:
]~[Iicon.37]~r~E~BGuildTag~[Iicon.37]~wYourName
~g> ~jText
And that will look like this:
GuildTag
YourName
> Text
