Lan does work on Windows 7, as far as I know. I did a small test. It even works with firewalls on (in case you allow an exception) and you don't have to run R.exe manually either (in order to connect) or stick cds. I wish I could do a test with win7 and XP mashines connected to each other, I'll probably do that once I'll fix my HP notebook, but in theory it should work too - unless there is something blocking communication in the local network.
I have read all the post but it is really hard checking what you did and how. From your screenshots it seems that you can't even do a simple lan connection on a single mashine? (correct?) I'll provide you a screenshot that it can be done.
Anyways I strongly reccommend that you put just basic facts in a chronological order and update your first post. What you have tried, etc... People with same problem as you have described will have it easer to read and reply. If we find a solution I'll put it in FAQ so please update us as soon as you have discovered something.
