Right, I think xp is preventing me from serving, so I went to firewall setting and enabled 6799 and 6800 - should they be set as TCP or UDP?

TCP

Circle of grace with might of power.
Sword of fury and sky of shower.
Truth of ray under starlight sky.
Phoenix of fire soaring up high.
Seraph of passion falling from grace.
Star of happiness blooming with disgrace.
Echoes of time whispers of pain.
Yearning heart lingers with red blood stain.
Willow of life and welter of death.
Words of truth linger yet.
Forgiveness comes as the poison begins.
Darkness causes destruction within.
Point of gray on a curve of light.
While Weakness comes with blight.
Give forth strength in our darkest hour.
Fury sword swing in an arcing shower.
Blue shall follow in our happiest hour.
Give forth strength in our darkest hour.

If windows xp has firewall switched on then:
control panel-firewall-click exceptions tab-click add port... - type 6799 - repeat with 6800 (selecting TCP for both).

ps I haven't checked if this has solved my problem yet.

Or you could just click properties on Network Places, click properties on your active connection.. THen go to the last tab and uncheck the firewall box.

If you open the ports on the xp firewall then there is NO reason for xp to stop you hosting. (baring microbloatsoft crappy os self corrupting)
your next option is to check how you are conected to the internet.

1. - If you have a modem and you can't host check with your isp. Ask if they are running a firewall.
2. - if your on a router/adsl modem with a built in firewall
a - open the correct ports :6799 :6800 .
b - set your pc in a dmz. (looki it up if you dont know that that is)
if you dont know how to try typing in your router/modems name into google, search forums on how to configure or read its manual.
3. - if your connected (called NAT) through another pc get it to port forward ports :6799 :6800 . (if its xp read about its firwall settings, if its one of the older microbloatsoft crappy os's like me /win98/ search in the help files under internet sharing.
4. - If your using a microbloatsoft crappy os with a 3rd party firewall like zonealarm read their help file.
5. - If your in a nursery/school/college/uni/work - work hard and become the IT admin, open the ports and enjoy.
6. - if your using a linux o/s system as a firewall / gateway I probably dont need to tell you how to open ports (iptables) as you'll already know if not there are PLENTY of linux support forums out there.

There are many variations of why you can't connect/host, however if you feel none of the help files that come with o's / software / hardware help you, drop me a line at netstormworld.

Aye but people are so thick and lazy you could plaster it in size 7 / h1 on the front page and still they would post in the forum or chatbox requesting help or wanting to know which ports.
